Manchester United and Chelsea are set to suffer a hammer blow in
their chase for Barcelona star, Sergio Busquets, with Barca offering
their midfielder a new contract to help ward off any interest.
According to reports, the Premier League duo have been contemplating
an audacious £35 million swoop for the Nou Camp midfield
enforcer. However sources in Spain have subsequently revealed Barcelona
will improve on Busquets' £65,000 per-week wages to secure his long-term
future.
The 26-year-old only signed a three-year contract extension with the
Catalan giants in August 2013, but their ongoing transfer embargo has
made the retention of players a top priority.
Busquets ability to protect the back-four in a team full of
attack-minded player's has proved an invaluable service for both
Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
His long list of honours includes a World Cup, European Championship,
four La Liga titles, two Champions League winners medal's and two Copa
del Rey trophies.
Busquets has played in all but one of Barca's La Liga games this
season, proving he continues to occupy a prominent role at the Nou Camp.
