Shalamar set to light up Abuja with Independence Day concert

Legendary American R&B group, Shalamar, is set to headline a historic concert in Abuja on October 4 as part of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.

The Grammy-winning trio Howard Hewett, Jeffrey Daniel, and Carolyn Griffey will perform live at the International Conference Centre, delivering timeless classics like A Night to RememberI Can Make You Feel GoodFriends, and more, backed by a seven-piece band.

The show, promoted by Abuja-based iCreate Africa in collaboration with First Culture Ltd, promises a nostalgic journey for old-school music lovers and an unforgettable experience for younger generations.

“This isn’t just a concert, it’s a musical bridge between the past and present,” said Tunde Babalola, Creative Director of First Culture. “Expect thrills, goosebumps, and memories that will last a lifetime.”

Shalamar last performed in Nigeria over four decades ago, with sold-out shows in Lagos, Ibadan, and Ife in 1982. Known globally for shaping R&B, funk, and dance culture — including Jeffrey Daniel’s pioneering of the iconic ‘moonwalk’ — the group has sold more than 25 million records worldwide.

Returning to Nigeria after 43 years, Shalamar is set to deliver what fans are already calling a night to remember.
