Sandisk Unveils Groundbreaking 256TB NVMe SSD at FMS 2025, Sets New Benchmark for Enterprise Storage

Santa Clara, California – August 5, 2025
In a major leap forward for enterprise data storage, Sandisk has unveiled its most advanced solid-state drive yet—a 256TB NVMe™ SSD—at the 2025 Flash Memory Summit (FMS), powered by the company’s newly introduced UltraQLC™ technology platform.

The new SSD, designed to support the growing demands of AI-driven workloads, is built on a next-generation NAND architecture that combines BiCS8 QLC CBA NAND, custom multi-core controllers, and advanced system-level optimizations. The result is an enterprise-grade SSD that delivers record-breaking capacity, high performance, and energy efficiency tailored to hyperscale data centers and AI infrastructure.

“As we move deeper into the AI era, flash storage is becoming a foundational element of intelligent computing,” said Khurram Ismail, Chief Product Officer at Sandisk. “The UltraQLC™ platform reflects years of innovation to create a flexible, high-capacity architecture that offers peak performance without compromising on efficiency. It's a pivotal step in meeting the explosive demand for scalable, high-throughput storage.”

Designed for the AI Era

The SANDISK® UltraQLC™ 256TB NVMe™ SSD is optimized for data-intensive AI operations such as rapid data ingest, preparation, and fast-access data lakes. Its large capacity and performance profile make it an ideal solution for hyperscalers and enterprises looking to boost productivity, reduce total cost of ownership (TCO), and accelerate time-to-insight.

Notable technological highlights of the new platform include:

  • Direct Write QLC – Eliminates SLC buffering, enabling power-loss safe writes on the first pass.
  • BiCS8 2Tb QLC die – Doubles storage density while maintaining a compact footprint.
  • Dynamic Frequency Scaling – Enhances performance by up to 10% (projected) for a given power level.
  • Scalable Multi-core Controller – Ensures high throughput and endurance even at ultra-high capacities.
  • Optimized Data Retention Profile – Reduces recycles by up to 33% (projected), improving reliability and reducing power draw.

Product Availability

In addition to the flagship 256TB drive, Sandisk also announced the SANDISK® SN670 128TB NVMe™ SSD, both of which will launch in U.2 form factor in the first half of 2026. More form factors are expected later in the year.

Sandisk at FMS 2025

The company will host a keynote presentation at FMS 2025 on Wednesday, August 6, at 11:40 AM, to spotlight the capabilities of the UltraQLC™ platform. Attendees can visit Booth #607 to experience live demos of the 256TB NVMe™ SSD and other next-gen storage solutions.

This milestone further cements Sandisk’s position at the forefront of flash storage innovation, with a continued focus on enabling the data ecosystems that power tomorrow’s AI and cloud infrastructure.
