Court grants ₦1m bail to man accused of ₦3.8m fraud in Oyo

 An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has granted ₦1 million bail to a 36-year-old man, Ismail Kehinde, who is standing trial for allegedly defrauding a trader of ₦3.78 million.



The prosecution alleged that between May and June in the Saki area of Oyo State, Kehinde obtained the money from a trader, Olalekan Opeyemi, under the false pretext of supplying beans. Instead, he allegedly converted the funds to personal use.

The offence, according to the charge sheet, contravenes Section 383 and is punishable under Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Kehinde pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate M. Mudashiru admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that one surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide a three-year tax clearance, while the other must be a blood relative of the defendant.

The case was adjourned for further hearing.
