Professors Without Borders (PWB), a UK-based non-governmental organisation, has launched the fourth edition of its annual Transformative Week at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), engaging over 200 students and faculty members in a week-long capacity-building programme.
Themed “Leadership, Innovation, and Sustainability: Empowering Digital Transformation,” this year’s programme is designed to equip participants with skills aligned with Nigeria’s evolving economic and digital landscape.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr Oluseyi Sodiya, Senior Manager, Projects and Digital Products at PWB, said the event features training on social entrepreneurship, African finance, research methodology, artificial intelligence tools, and personal branding. The programme, which began earlier this week, is scheduled to run through July 25.
Representing UNILAG Vice Chancellor Prof. Folashade Ogunsola at the event, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Research) Prof. Bola Oboh praised the collaboration, describing it as a vital knowledge exchange that strengthens institutional development.
“Our students benefit from global perspectives, while our faculty enhance their teaching capabilities through exposure to international methodologies,” Oboh noted.
She added that the programme supports the broader five-year strategic plan of Professors Without Borders to engage over 15 Nigerian universities and train at least 2,000 students by 2030. It also aligns with Nigeria’s Vision 2030 objectives on economic diversification and human capital development.
Following the UNILAG programme, PWB will take the initiative to Ekiti State University from July 28 to August 1 for another round of training.
According to Oboh, the partnership continues to provide students and faculty with “invaluable exposure to global perspectives and cutting-edge skills,” facilitated by a team of international educators working alongside Nigerian experts.
Professors Without Borders is focused on expanding access to quality education in underserved communities globally, with a strong presence across universities in Europe, Asia, and Africa since its founding in 2016.
