The Interim National Chairperson of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has reaffirmed the party’s position as the only credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), urging Nigerians to remain committed to the LP’s people-first agenda.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area in Kaduna State, Usman described the LP as the most people-oriented political platform in the country, adding that the party remains focused on restoring national dignity and championing governance that reflects the needs of ordinary citizens.
“We are committed to restoring national dignity, hope, and delivering people-centered governance,” she said, decrying the worsening economic conditions and increasing hardship faced by Nigerians.
Responding to questions about the recent defection of some party members to the APC, Usman dismissed the development as inconsequential to the party’s momentum. She insisted that those who left never truly embraced the LP’s core vision, and their departure had, in fact, helped strengthen internal unity.
“Some of those who left the party never shared in our vision. Their exit has brought clarity and renewed cohesion within our ranks,” she said.
Admitting past mistakes in candidate selection during previous electoral cycles, Usman acknowledged that lessons had been learned and assured that the party would be more intentional in its vetting process going forward.
“We made some mistakes in candidates’ selection, but those lessons have been learned. Going forward, we will be more deliberate in choosing those who genuinely align with our mission of building a new Nigeria,” she stated.
She also made a rallying call to party members, especially those aggrieved, to put differences aside and unite as the LP embarks on key organisational reforms, including a nationwide membership revalidation exercise, state congresses, and a national convention.
“We are entering a new phase in our journey, and we need everyone on board. This is not just about the Labour Party; it’s about the future of Nigeria,” Usman concluded.
