Complaint laid after Kiwi family forced to abandon dirty hotel

They were promised "majestic", "stylish and "elegant" accommodation but a Kiwi family instead got dirt, grease and mould at their Gold Coast hotel.
Australian media reports that Towers of Chevron Renaissance will be assessed to make sure it complies with adequate standards of hygiene after New Zealander Stephen Matthews and his relatives laid a complaint with the country's Office of Fair Trading.
The Christchurch resident and family members Michael Douglas, Kristy-Lee Donnan and her 11-month old baby Marlie paid AU$900 (NZD$1008) for their three-night stay at the hotel.
Photos supplied to the Gold Coast Bulletin show extensive dust around their accommodation, mould in the wet areas, grease in the kitchen and sticky or dirty floors and carpets.

"The most disturbing fact is that the accommodation supplier placed another family in straight after we abandoned the unit," Matthews told the newspaper.
A hotel spokeswoman said the family had been moved to a satisfactory apartment after their first night's stay and were given a refund.

The Office of Fair Trading referred the complaint to the Gold Coast City Council, which will conduct an assessment of the establishment.
The Towers of Chevron Renaissance are advertised as offering "stylish Surfers Paradise accommodation boasting elegance and comfort on the Gold Coast".
"Three majestic towers make up the Chevron Towers rising to a height of 50 levels of apartment bliss."
