Agbarho Child Abductions: Senator Dafinone Urges Police Action, Calls for Calm Amid Rising Tensions

Agbarho, Delta State – Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has expressed deep concern over a disturbing surge in child abductions in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area. In a statement issued on September 25, 2025, the senator reported that over six children, primarily aged between three and ten, have gone missing in recent months, plunging families into grief and the community into fear.

The crisis escalated in June with four reported disappearances, triggering protests by local women on September 16. Tensions reached a boiling point on September 24 when a mob lynched a woman suspected of attempting to kidnap a child. Senator Dafinone condemned the act of vigilante justice, warning that it risks further chaos and the loss of innocent lives.

“My heart goes out to the grieving families,” Dafinone said, pledging to push for justice and answers at the highest levels of government. “Every missing child is a future we cannot afford to lose. I will not rest until they are found and safety is restored.”

The senator called on the Delta State Police Command, Ughelli Area Command, and federal agencies to ramp up investigations, enhance patrols, and collaborate with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to dismantle any criminal networks involved, whether linked to ritual killings or human trafficking. He cited the recent rescue of eight trafficked children in Delta as evidence that proactive measures can yield results.

Dafinone also urged community leaders, under the guidance of the Ovie of Agbarho, to bolster local security through neighborhood watches, parental awareness campaigns, and partnerships with schools. He emphasized the need to reject vigilante violence and instead foster unity and cooperation with law enforcement.

“As your Senator, I am committed to securing stronger security measures and legislative protections for Delta Central,” Dafinone affirmed. “Together, we will overcome this menace and restore peace to Agbarho, Ughelli North, and Delta State.”

The statement comes as the community grapples with fear and frustration, with residents urged to remain vigilant and support ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
