Senator Ned Nwoko calls for tough action against staged kidnappings

Senator Ned Nwoko (APC, Delta North) has called on security agencies to clamp down on individuals staging fake kidnappings, stressing that offenders must face the full weight of the law.

The lawmaker, in a statement on Thursday, decried the rising cases of self-arranged abductions, describing the act as reckless, criminal, and damaging to public trust.

Nwoko cited a recent incident where a young man in Aniocha North faked his own abduction, prompting police and local vigilantes to mobilise for a rescue before investigations exposed the ploy.

He warned that staged kidnappings traumatise families, divert security resources, and trivialise the suffering of genuine victims. According to him, punishing culprits decisively will deter others from engaging in such deceit.

“As senator representing Delta North, I remain committed to safeguarding communities, supporting security agencies, and promoting peace and trust among our people,” Nwoko added.
