Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu quits Social Democratic Party over prolonged party crisis

Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, representing Nasarawa West, has formally resigned from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing unresolved internal disputes and litigations as the basis for his exit.

In a letter dated 20 August 2025 and addressed to the ward chairman of Tudun Kofa, Keffi Local Government Area, the senator explained that his decision was driven by the prolonged instability within the party.

“This decision has not been taken lightly but I feel compelled to do so due to the lingering internal crisis that has plagued our party for some time,” Wadada wrote.

He expressed gratitude for the relationships and opportunities built during his time with the SDP but noted that it was necessary for him to “move on and explore new avenues.”

The lawmaker had earlier hinted at leaving the party in June when he openly criticised former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. At the time, he remarked: “Even though Malam El-Rufai is my elder brother, I don’t think I can stay with him in the SDP because he is not a principled politician.”
