Ondo State House of Assembly urges football agency on transparency, grassroots development

The Ondo State House of Assembly has called on the leadership of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) to embrace transparency and accountability in its operations while prioritising grassroots football development.

Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Olajide Oguntodu, made the call during an oversight visit to the newly appointed management of the agency in Akure. He stressed the need for the leadership to turn its plans into measurable results, particularly in the rehabilitation of sports infrastructure and the promotion of football at the grassroots level.

Oguntodu described the visit as a strategic step to strengthen legislative oversight and foster collaboration in sports development. He assured that the Assembly was ready to provide legislative backing and advocate budgetary support for the agency’s programmes, provided they align with the state’s broader sports development policy.

He also urged the management to create avenues for direct engagement with stakeholders to address present challenges, set clear priorities, and chart a strategic direction that would nurture football talents across the state.

Responding, ODSFA General Manager, Divine Ogbonnaya, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to talent development, infrastructure improvement and youth empowerment. He expressed optimism that the agency’s efforts would place Ondo State on the global football map.

The committee also inspected the ongoing renovation of players’ hostels and upgrades at the pitch as part of its oversight activities.
