Lagos State Government announces night-time diversion for Maryland Bridge wall repairs

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan to facilitate emergency repairs on a damaged section of the Maryland Independence Bridge wall.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the works would run from Saturday, 16 August, to Tuesday, 19 August, between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. each night.

“These repairs are essential to restore the structural integrity of the bridge wall and to safeguard all road users,” Osiyemi explained.

He outlined that motorists travelling towards Oshodi, Ojuelegba, Stadium, and Lagos Island would be diverted at Maria Lodge, Maryland, onto the Maryland Bridge to link Idiroko Road inward Anthony.

“The main carriageway will remain closed to traffic throughout the repair period,” he confirmed.

Osiyemi noted that movement for motorists heading towards Ketu or Ikorodu from Lagos, Stadium, or Anthony would not be affected.

“We have put in place comprehensive traffic management measures. Our officers will be stationed on-site to ease inconvenience and manage the flow of vehicles,” he assured.

He called on road users to remain patient during the works, underlining the importance of cooperation.

“All motorists should comply with traffic officers’ instructions to maintain smooth movement and prevent avoidable gridlock,” the Commissioner advised.

The government stressed that the diversion would apply strictly within the repair schedule and encouraged residents to plan their journeys with the timeframe in mind.
