Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State sacks two commissioners, appoints replacements in cabinet reshuffle

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has dismissed two commissioners from his cabinet as part of a wider administrative reshuffle announced on Thursday.

The affected officials are the Commissioner for Environment and the Commissioner for Intergovernmental and Special Duties. Their removal was disclosed in a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya.

Although the statement did not give specific reasons for the dismissal, the governor immediately named their replacements. Mohammed Habib has been appointed as the new Commissioner for Environment, while Ibrahim Hala Hassan takes over as Commissioner for Intergovernmental and Special Duties.

Governor Zulum thanked the outgoing commissioners for their contributions to the state and conveyed his best wishes as they move on from public office.

The changes extended to the education sector, with the appointment of Professor Yusuf Balami, a specialist in Educational Psychology, as the new Executive Chairman of the Borno State Secondary Education Board.

“I encourage Professor Balami to bring his depth of experience in both academic and administrative spheres to bear on improving the quality of secondary education in the state,” the statement read.

It also confirmed that the names and qualifications of all newly appointed officials have been transmitted to the Borno State House of Assembly for screening and formal confirmation.
