Google has unveiled a new initiative, “Build with AI,” aimed at equipping 1,000 Nigerian developers with advanced Generative Artificial Intelligence skills. The programme, launched in partnership with GOMYCODE, seeks to nurture tech talent capable of creating transformative products that are both locally relevant and globally competitive.
John Kimani, Google’s Head of Developer Ecosystem for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the move comes at a crucial time as industries in Nigeria and across Africa increasingly turn to technology to address pressing challenges and boost economic growth. Participants will gain access to AI tools such as Gemini, along with a curriculum designed and overseen by Google experts.
The 11-week training will be delivered through GOMYCODE’s network of hacker spaces, blending in-person classes with hands-on lab work to ensure practical, real-world application. The programme will focus on developing AI solutions in key sectors including fintech, healthtech, and agritech, positioning Nigerian developers at the forefront of Africa’s digital transformation.
According to GOMYCODE Country Director, Babatunde Olaifa, the collaboration will provide the infrastructure and expertise to drive innovation. The initiative will conclude with a demo day, where top participants will present their AI-powered solutions to Google representatives and industry leaders. Applications are currently open to developers nationwide.
