Yobe Governor’s aide resigns, dumps APC for African Democratic Congress over marginalisation

Babagana Yakubu Mohammed, Senior Special Assistant to Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, has resigned his position and defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party recently embraced by key opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, and made available to journalists on Sunday, Babagana expressed disappointment with the APC, citing neglect and disregard for committed grassroots loyalists who contributed significantly to the party’s electoral victories.

“Please accept this as my formal resignation from the position of Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency Governor Buni, effective immediately. I have come to realise that my efforts and contributions at the grassroots have been consistently ignored,” the letter read.

He accused the APC leadership at both local and state levels of deliberately sidelining him despite his unwavering loyalty and service to the party.

“Despite my dedication and commitment, I have been systematically excluded from key engagements and decision-making processes. It has become clear that my continued presence in the APC no longer aligns with my personal and political principles,” he added.

Babagana’s defection comes at a time when the ADC is gaining traction, following endorsements by several opposition leaders positioning the party as a potential alternative platform ahead of 2027.
