Hamas welcomes BRICS call for end to Israeli genocide in Gaza, total withdrawal from Palestinian territories

Hamas has welcomed a call by the BRICS group of emerging economies for the Israeli regime to end its war of genocide against the Gaza Strip, and enact a complete withdrawal from the coastal sliver and all the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movement passed the remarks in a statement on Monday, the final day of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro that had issued the demand as part of its final communiqué.

“We welcome the final statement of the BRICS summit and its call for a ceasefire in Gaza, and withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces,” the movement said.

At least 57,418 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed throughout the war, which the regime launched in response to a historic resistance operation that had followed decades of occupation and aggression by Tel Aviv.

Hamas further commended the organization for denouncing various violations of the international law by the regime, including draconian tightening of its already suffocating siege on Gaza.

The stepped-up blockade has led to near-total cessation of aid delivery into the Palestinian territory. According to the communiqué, the practice amounts to Tel Aviv’s deploying starvation as a “method of war.”

The movement ended the statement with a call addressed to BRICS’ principal members – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa -- as well as those who have been either invited or joined the body, including Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

It urged the member states and the rest of the international community’s members to join in piling up pressure on the regime to cease its deadly atrocities against Palestinians, including the “criminal blockade.”
