Festus Keyamo tasks FAAN board on airport infrastructure, passenger experience

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, has called on the newly inaugurated Governing Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to prioritise infrastructure upgrades across the country’s airports.

Speaking during the official inauguration of the board in Abuja, Keyamo said modernising airport facilities is crucial to aligning Nigeria’s aviation sector with international standards. He stressed that such improvements would enhance safety, boost security, and significantly improve the passenger experience.

“This occasion marks more than a change in leadership; it is a renewed pledge to the ideals of service, safety, and advancement in our aviation sector,” the minister stated.

He underscored the global nature of the aviation industry and advocated strong collaboration with governmental bodies, international organisations, and private sector partners to develop a vibrant aviation economy.

“We must collectively raise operational standards, expand connectivity, and stimulate economic growth. As you step into this responsibility, remember that the nation is watching,” Keyamo added.

He further urged the board to keep passengers at the heart of all decisions by focusing on service excellence, customer satisfaction, and an improved airport experience. He encouraged synergy with relevant agencies in furtherance of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

Chairman of the FAAN Governing Board, Dr Umar Ganduje, assured that the board would promote sound governance while fully respecting institutional boundaries. He noted that many challenges in the past stemmed from overreach by boards and reaffirmed his commitment to proper oversight.

“We will remain within our limits and uphold the trust placed in us. Our focus will be on improving infrastructure, meeting passenger expectations, and enhancing overall satisfaction,” Ganduje said.

FAAN Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, praised Ganduje’s leadership credentials, describing him as well-suited for the role. She pledged FAAN’s cooperation with the board in strengthening governance and improving service delivery.

Kuku also appealed to President Tinubu to continue supporting the authority with adequate resources to transform airport facilities nationwide.

The newly inaugurated FAAN board is composed of eight members.
