Cross River acquires two aircraft to boost tourism and air connectivity

Cross River State has taken delivery of two Bombardier CRJ1000 aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen its tourism sector and revamp aviation infrastructure. The twin aircraft, capable of seating up to 100 passengers each, mark a strategic investment by the administration of Governor Bassey Otu in improving regional connectivity and economic development.

The aircraft were officially received on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Speaking at the handover, Governor Otu hailed the acquisition as a “long-overdue leap” towards modernising transportation and unlocking the state’s economic potential.

He said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to positioning Cross River as a major tourism and business destination, while also enhancing socio-economic mobility across the region.

The official commissioning of the aircraft, under the supervision of the Ministry of Aviation, is scheduled for August 12, 2025.
