Hyacinth Alia hails Tinubu’s visit to Benue, backs President’s order to flush out killers

 The Governor of Benue state, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, on behalf of the people of Benue State has extended heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his visit to the state following the tragic events, especially the pogrom at Yelwata town in Guma LGA of Benue state.



In a press statement signed by Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and made available to Nigerian NewsDirect on Thursday, Alia said the President’s presence and support to the state during the  challenging time provides the people with hope and strength.

He appreciated the President for his assurance to work with the State government in order to fashion out a framework that will bring about lasting peace in the State, and for his directives to the security agencies to ensure the criminals are arrested and brought to face the full wrath of the law. 

“We deeply appreciate your commitment to addressing the security challenges we face, particularly your directive to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police. 

“Your decisive action to neutralize the threats posed by armed herders reassures us that our safety and the return of our farmers to their lands are priorities for your administration,” the Governor states.

The governor equally appreciated  his counterparts, especially the Progressive Governor’s Forum led by H.E. Hope Uzodinma, for standing in solidarity with him and the state, stating that their collective efforts demonstrate a united front against violence and a shared commitment to the well-being of communities across the country.

He said the people of the State take so much solace in the leadership and compassion shown by the President, State Governors and other well meaning Nigerians, during this trying moment. 

The Governor assured the people of Benue State that he will continue to work together with all the critical stakeholders, as his government works towards rebuilding and restoring peace in the State.
