I’m broke, yet accused of money laundering – Verydarkman reacts after EFCC release

Social commentator and online activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has reacted publicly to his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing the allegations against him as baseless and illogical.

Otse, who was granted freedom on Wednesday after spending several days in EFCC detention, questioned the rationale behind what he called unfounded accusations of financial misconduct, especially money laundering.

In a viral video shared on social media shortly after his release, the controversial internet personality appeared alongside his legal representative, rights activist Barrister Deji Adeyanju, stating that he was bewildered by the charges.

“They are accusing someone like me of laundering money? Someone who doesn’t even have money?” he queried. “People wonder how I manage to do charity. They don’t know I go into debt just to help others.”

The outspoken figure, who has garnered a following for his blunt commentaries and online advocacy, maintained his innocence while confirming his release, noting, “Anyway, we’re back outside with my lawyer by my side.”

NewsDirect reports that Otse’s detention had sparked widespread reactions across digital platforms, with many of his followers calling for transparency in the EFCC’s handling of his case.

The EFCC has yet to issue an official statement on the specifics of the allegations or the conditions surrounding his release at the time of this report.
