Edo State Governor approves full rehabilitation of key Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo federal road

Motorists and residents in Edo State are set to benefit from significant improvements as Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the full rehabilitation of over 45 failed sections of the Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo Federal Road. This crucial route connects multiple communities within Akoko Edo Local Government Area.

The decision, designed to stimulate economic activity in the region, follows the recent completion of the Ikiran-Oke to Ikakhumoh road, also located in Akoko Edo.

A statement signed by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, described the rehabilitation as part of the administration’s wider effort to address numerous deteriorating federal roads throughout the state.

The Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo road, which links Kogi and Ondo States and serves as a vital corridor for vehicles travelling between Abuja and Lagos, has suffered prolonged neglect. This has negatively affected both local and interstate traffic flow.

Many residents, who depend on quarrying and cassava processing for their income, have expressed frustration over the difficulties faced when transporting their products to market.

A commercial driver operating in the area explained that the poor road conditions have increased transportation costs because fewer drivers are willing to use the route.

The project contractor, Mr Bajwa Hammed, assured residents of a high standard of work.

“There are numerous sections that have failed on this road, which must be repaired urgently to ensure safe passage for people and vehicles. I understand the standard the governor expects, and we will deliver on it,” he stated.

Governor Okpebholo’s administration continues to prioritise the rehabilitation of infrastructure across Edo State
