Governor Alex Otti of Abia State reveals when he’ll retire from politics

Alex Otti of Abia State has announced that he will retire from politics once he finishes his second tenure as the governor of the state.

Otti stated that he has no plans to contest for the Nigerian Senate after serving the people of the state as governor.

Speaking at a reception held in his honour by the Anambra Development Unions Association, Aba branch, the governor said the reports that he would be contesting for Senate are misleading

His words, “When I finish my eight years here, I will retire. I am not going to Abuja,” Mr Otti said, urging critics to stop spreading falsehoods.”

Noting that Nigeria’s politics is evolving, Otti said there is a need for the young ones to be given the platform and push to occupy political seats.

“We are no longer that young. Society is changing, and the young ones are rising. It’s time we give them the opportunity,” Otti said.

Further speaking on the retirement age of civil servants in the state, especially teachers, Otti said his administration will revisit and review the disengagement of 154 workers in the state in 2011.

According to the governor, those who are under the age of 65 but disengaged due to their state of origin might be re-engaged by his government.

Describing their disengagement as illegal, the governor said, “For those outside the age bracket, we’ll find fair compensation mechanisms.”
