Lent: Use period to pray for enduring peace — Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke to Christians

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged Christians to use the Lenten period to pray for enduring peace and progress for Osun State and Nigeria.

This comes as Governor Adeleke underscored the spiritual significance of the Lenten period as the very foundation of Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry.

The Osun governor also called on Christians in the state to use the 40-day fasting period to rekindle bonds and strengthen relationships.

Governor Adeleke gave this admonition in a message signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday.

He tasked the faithful to emulate the example of Jesus Christ by extending a helping hand to those in need during this period.

He also noted that the message of sacrifice and compassion must not be lost on them.

He said, “As Christians undertake this year’s Lenten period, I offer my congratulations to the faithful in Osun State and beyond. Lent is a sacred period, not only because it provides an opportunity for spiritual renewal but also because it passes on the invaluable message of selflessness,” Governor Adeleke was quoted as saying.

“As exemplified by Jesus Christ, the 40-day fasting period is an opportunity for self-examination and growth in faith, strengthening resolve towards advancing the cause of humanity. I call on the faithful to rededicate themselves to the symbolic message of Lent, which revolves around sacrifice, compassion, and selflessness.

“I also enjoin Christians to embody the life of Jesus Christ by fostering love, brotherliness, and helping those in need in our communities in whatever way possible, as well as promoting peaceful living. Let us not forget to ask for divine intervention for our state, especially at a time like this when certain elements are bent on disturbing its peace for selfish reasons.”

Governor Adeleke, in the message, prayed for the period of piety to bring peace, strength, and spiritual fulfillment.

“I also hope that this journey of faith contributes immensely to the continued peace and progress of Osun State and Nigeria as a whole.”
