Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte B Egede has slammed an upcoming trip by high-profile US officials including Usha Vance, wife of Vice President JD Vance, White House national security adviser Mike Waltz and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright to the self-governing Danish territory.

Egede called for the international community to step in as he accused Washington of “foreign interference.”

The spokesman for the White House National Security Council, Brian Hughes has said that, “This is a visit to learn about Greenland, its culture, history, and people and to attend a dog sled race the United States is proud to sponsor, plain and simple.”

Waltz and Wright also plan to visit the Pituffik Space Base – a US military facility in northern Greenland. The White House has said they will get briefings from the US service members based there.

Egede, however, has refused Washington’s claims about the cultural and historical nature of the visit and said, “This cannot be seen as just a private visit.”

He suggested that the visit is part of a larger political power play by the US to annex the Island.

Waltz is Trump’s confidant and closest advisor, and his presence in Greenland will certainly make the people of the United States to believe in Trump’s mission. The pressure will increase after the visit, Egede said.
He accused Greenland’s allies of being afraid of the US and of “hiding” and “almost whispering” their support.

“If they do not speak out loudly about how the US is treating Greenland, the situation will escalate day by day, and the American aggression will increase,” he warned.

US President Donald Trump, who first suggested the idea of buying Greenland in 2019, has renewed his calls for the US to take over the island since his return to the White House in January.

“We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it,” he said during his joint address to Congress.
