Rapper Jay-Z accuses attorney Tony Buzbee of blackmailing him over a male accuser to extort large sums of money

Jay-Z has filed new court documents exposing what he calls a deliberate attempt by attorney Tony Buzbee to extort large sums of money from him through two separate allegations; one of which was dismissed, and the other never even made it to court.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Buzbee sent two demand letters to Jay-Z in November 2024. One letter was tied to a Jane Doe who accused Jay-Z and Sean "Diddy" Combs of r@ping her in 2000 when she was 13. The second was related to a John Doe who claimed Jay-Z s3xually assaulted him at a Beverly Hills party in 2015 after he was secretly drugged by someone other than Jay-Z.

Jay-Z has denied both allegations, calling them “false and ridiculous in every respect.” His legal team views Buzbee’s letters as blatant blackmail attempts, with Jay-Z alleging that Buzbee demanded “something of substance” to settle the “situation.”

Last week, the Jane Doe accuser voluntarily dismissed her case, marking a legal victory for both Jay-Z and Diddy. However, Jay-Z’s latest filing suggests that the timing of the lawsuit was intentional. He claims Buzbee deliberately filed it on the eve of his daughter Blue Ivy’s Hollywood premiere for Mufasa: The Lion King to force him into a difficult position—either attending the event or hiding from media scrutiny. Jay-Z ultimately attended the premiere, posing for photos with Blue Ivy and Beyoncé, though he did not speak to the press.

Back in November, Jay-Z had filed a lawsuit against Buzbee under an anonymous identity, alleging extortion. He later revealed himself as the plaintiff, and Buzbee attempted to have the lawsuit dismissed.

Now, Jay-Z is fighting to keep his case against Buzbee alive, stating in court documents that he viewed the attorney’s actions as “an existential threat to my reputation, my career, my family, and everything else I have spent my life achieving.”

Despite the dismissal of the Jane Doe lawsuit, Buzbee has not backed down, telling TMZ, “We expect that lawsuit, which is frivolous, to be dismissed.”
