Dome of the Rock model displayed in Iran ahead of International Quds Day

A smaller model of the Dome of the Rock on display in Iran's holy city of Mashhad as a show of solidarity with Palestinians.

On the occasion of International Quds Day, Iran's northeastern city of Mashhad has unveiled a model of the Dome of the Rock, which is a holy shrine in the al-Aqsa Mosque Compound in Jerusalem al-Quds.

This glowing golden dome has become the symbol of Palestinians' struggle to free their land from Israel's occupation.

The shrine inside the al-Aqsa Mosque Compound in Jerusalem al-Quds, goes by the name the Dome of the Rock.

Now this smaller model of the dome was put on display in Iran's holy city of Mashhad as a show of solidarity with Palestinians.

Built around 30 years ago in Iran, the size of the mock-up is one eighth of the real dome.

The dome's unveiling ceremony came on the occasion of International Quds Day.

Every year on International Quds Day, millions of Muslims hold rallies worldwide to reaffirm their call for the liberation of Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories and denounce the Tel Aviv regime’s acts of aggression against the Palestinian people.

However, this year, street demonstrations have been canceled in Iran due to the coronavirus pandemic and replaced by online events.

The late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, designated the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan as Quds Day to mark solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

The event, which is marked worldwide, is viewed as an opportunity for all freedom-seeking nations of the world to express their outrage at the Israeli regime for its decades-long occupation of Palestinian territories.
