Senator Elizabeth Warren rips Donald Trump for his Muslim ban directive

Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren
Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren has ripped US President Donald Trump for his executive order aimed at keeping people from certain Islamic countries away from the United States.
Trump's order, signed on Friday, bars all persons from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia from entering the United States for 90 days and suspends the US Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days until the president determines they have been sufficiently changed.
"Let’s be clear: A Muslim ban by any other name is still a Muslim ban," Warren said on Friday night in her series of tweets.
"Donald Trump's order restricting immigrants from Muslim countries & freezing admission of refugees is a betrayal of American values,” she added.
“We are a country of immigrants & refugees, of people fleeing religious persecution & seeking freedom, a country made strong by diversity,” she continued.
‘This is a Muslim ban'
Democratic Senator Kamala Harris
Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Kamala Harris has blasted Trump for his executive order on Muslim refugees, calling it a Muslim ban.
"On Holocaust Memorial Day, Trump restricted refugees from Muslim-majority countries. Make no mistake — this is a Muslim ban," Harris said in a statement on Friday night.
"We have opened our doors to those fleeing violence and oppression for decades, by presidents on both sides of the aisle. We can't turn our backs on the millions of refugees who are contributing to our country and our economy,” she said.
"During the Holocaust, we failed to let refugees like Anne Frank into our country. We can't let history repeat itself," Harris said.
During his presidential election campaign, Trump had called for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States."
Trump’s December 2015 proposal, titled "Donald J. Trump Statement on Preventing Muslim Immigration," was widely condemned by Muslim and human rights groups as well as his Democratic rivals and many of his Republican proponents who describe the proposal as divisive, counterproductive and contrary to American values.
He is also reportedly moving ahead with a plan to create a database of Muslim Americans.
