US Libertarian vice presidential candidate Bill Weld reject reports of defecting to Hillary Clinton 'wishful thinking'

US Libertarian vice presidential candidate Bill Weld
US Libertarian vice presidential candidate Bill Weld has rejected reports that he is defecting to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to help her win the White House.
American investigative journalist and author Carl Bernstein said on CNN on Sunday that sources told him that Weld is "thinking about dropping out of this race if it looks like he and Johnson might get Trump elected" and would "renounce his candidacy and go out and help Hillary Clinton."
In response, Weld said in a statement to CNN Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson and he “will campaign with all our strength to make that case to the American people from now until November 8th.”
The former Massachusetts governor said talk of him ditching Johnson is "wishful thinking on the part of the two-party duopoly."
The US Commission on Presidential Debates announced on Friday that Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein will not participate in the September 26 debate because they failed to garner the 15 percent support in five polls required to qualify for the debate.

And Weld told CBS News earlier on Sunday regardless of whether or not they're on the debate stage they would still influence the November election.
"We're going to alter the course of this election, whether or not we're in the debates," he said. "And I think someone trying to guess what that influence is going to be, that's very hard, very hard to predict."
