Shakira announced little Sasha Piqué Mebarak’s arrival on her website, Shakira.com, January 30, even taking the time to explain the meaning behind her little one’s interesting moniker. “The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means ‘defender of mankind’ and ‘warrior,’” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer reveals.

Shakira’s statement goes onto say that Sasha was born on January 29 at 5:45 p.m. in Barcelona, also the birthplace of proud papa Gerard. E! Online notes that the tiny tot was born via C-section at hospital Quirón-Teknon de Barcelona. According to Shakira’s statement, both mom and baby are in “excellent health.”
Baby Sasha joins big brother Milan, who turned 2 on January 22, and we hardly think he’ll be the last kiddo for the couple. “I would love to have eight or nine kids with Gerard," Shakira once told Latina magazine. "My own fútbol team.” With two little boys under 3, Shakira is well on her way to achieving that lofty goal!
But marriage is a different story, as the “Whenever, Wherever” singer once told Hello! that tying the knot isn’t high on her list of priorities. Why? “We already have what's essential, you know? We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby," she reasoned. "I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them. But if I'm ever going to get married, he's the one.”
Colombian pop star Shakira has given birth in Barcelona to her second child, a boy, she said on Friday.
A statement posted on Shakira’s website said her son, Sasha, was born on Thursday night.
“The hospital confirmed that both mother and child are in excellent health,” the statement said.
The singer and her boyfriend, Spanish football player Gerard Pique, had their first child, a son named Milan, in 2013.
Shakira, 37, and Pique, 27, met in 2010, but only confirmed that they were in a relationship in March 2011.
The “Hips Don't Lie” singer, one of the best-selling Latin pop idols, gave birth in Barcelona's Teknon clinic, local media reported earlier. Pique is a defender for Spanish La Liga team
FC Barcelona.
As with the birth of their first child, the couple recently asked fans in an online baby shower to buy gifts such as fresh water kits and vaccines to help needy children. Shakira is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
