Architect of Fortune

Architect of Fortune       Written April 7th 2011 by Jokpeme Joseph Omode
I have been studying my past from the present;
I have been working so hard like an elephant,
I have been living a life of hardship and toil,
Yet I get little.

I did my best to get the best out of life
But it wasn’t good enough.
I gave all I have to get what I want
Yet I got little in return.

I am born from the society I belong;
I am made and refined in the society,
I am located in the society in time,
And positioned in the society in space.

My position in the society determines my experience;
And experience is the best teacher.
My problems and limitations have changed me
To become critical and skeptical.

Variety is the spice of life.
There is a time and place for everything;
Time and tide wait for no one,
There is no use in crying over spilt milk
For what’s done cannot be undone.

The worth of the water can never be known
Till the well runs dry.
I cannot make omelets
Without breaking eggs.

A good beginning is half the work
And a work done ill must be done twice.
Business before pleasure
And from small beginnings come great things.

No gain without pain;
Patience is a virtue
And we must learn to walk before we can run
For there is no time like the present.

Make hay while the sun shines
For a bird in the hand
Is worth two in the bush
And one good turn deserves another.

I was favoured
Like the countless number of rain drops
And elevated to shine
And to bring good fortune to the dark world.

Time is a great healer!
Time is money!
Time lost cannot be recalled!
Every man is the architect of his own fortune.
